Sophie Westenholz and Fanny Hensel - Two female composers in the mirror of their time, Schwerin Castle, Throne Room.
Saturday, 03/05/2025 / 06:30 PM - 07:45 PM / Schloss Schwerin
Conversation concert with works by Sophie Westenholz and Fanny Hensel, née Mendelssohn Bartholdy. With Maa Novosel and Dr. Reinhard Wulfhorst, music publisher.
The pianist and composer Sophie Westenholz (1759-1838) helped shape musical life at the (grand) ducal court in Ludwigslust for decades. Dr. Reinhard Wulfhorst (music publisher, Edition Massonneau, Schwerin) is rightly regarded as her rediscoverer. He will present the life and work of Sophie Westenholz. Did Sophie Westenholz and her Berlin colleague Fanny Hensel, née Mendelssohn Bartholdy (1805-1847) know about each other and perhaps even meet in person?
The pianist Maša Novosel has been familiar with the works of Fanny Hensel for many years. Together with Dr. Reinhard Wulfhorst, she has now prepared and will present one of Sophie Westenholz's previously unpublished sonatas.
The concert is part of an excursion by the Mendelssohn Gesellschaft Berlin to Schwerin. Admission is free, but reservations are required, please send an e-mail to: susanne.e.scherrer@gmail.com
