Sophia Rost reports on her assignment in Chad, where over 800,000 people sought refuge from the war in Sudan.
Sophia Rost reports on her mission in Chad. More than 800,000 people fled to the neighboring country to escape the war in Sudan. "In our project location Adré, the population has increased more than sixfold as a result of the war in Sudan," she says. "A huge refugee camp has sprung up. There is a lack of the most basic necessities: water, food, tents and mosquito nets." The catastrophic living conditions not only encourage outbreaks of disease, but also serious accidents." Sophia Rost and her colleagues treated many patients with acute injuries. "In the operating theater, for example, we had many children with severe burns. Most people only have open fires for cooking, so accidents happen with hot oil and boiling water."
Sophia Rost will show photos and explain the processes in a project with Doctors Without Borders. We will also be bringing along current impressions via video from the project in Adré. Health advisor Aisha B. will talk about her work in the camp, how she informs people about diseases and also about her own path to Doctors Without Borders. After the presentation, there will be an opportunity to talk to her and other MSF staff.
