Dante: A legacy

Dante: A legacy

In more than 100 collages, Schwerin artist Ruth Tesmar explores Dante Alighieri's "Divine Comedy".

A unique exhibition by the renowned artist Ruth Tesmar is being presented in the Old Synagogue in Hagenow. For the first time, her hundred-part series of paintings on Dante Alighieri's "Divine Comedy" will be made accessible to the public in its entirety.

The carefully restored prayer room of the Old Synagogue provides the perfect setting for this extraordinary project. The original originals of the three-volume, bibliophile printed work, created between 2002 and 2006, are shown as an extensive collection of color collage sheets.

The series consists of 100 individual works that associatively take up the three parts of Dante's work - Inferno, Purgatory and Paradise. This extensive exploration enables a profound visual interpretation of the timeless masterpiece.

The exhibition is accompanied by five handwritten text strips with excerpts from Ossip Mandelstam's text "Conversation on Dante".

These calligraphic elements add a textual and conceptual layer to the visual interpretation.

The vernissage will take place on March 9 at 3 pm with an entertaining artist talk and musical accompaniment in the Old Synagogue.
